North Coast Community Transport operates a volunteer car scheme. This involves volunteers from the local community using their own vehicles to transport members to and from a wide range of appointments, health centres, weekly shopping, hairdressers, recreation, etc.
The member books their journey in advance through the office. The office staff assign a volunteer to each trip and the volunteer is paid a mileage allowance for all their miles. These expenses cover fuel cost and the wear and tear of a vehicle.
For the Rural Transport scheme to continue to grow and be successful it is very important to have the support of volunteers in the local community. Perhaps you or someone you know could spare a couple of hours per month to take an elderly person to an appointment or to do their weekly shopping.
Remember, you get the satisfaction of helping someone less well-off than yourself and you have your expenses fully reimbursed.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver with North Coast Community Transport, please contact our offices for more details and an application pack.
