Road restrictions are necessary to ensure public safety and local access during the week of The Open. (July 14 -21 2019).

In the event that the Championship overruns, the same restrictions will be in place on Monday 22 July 2019.

Access

In accordance with the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, access to the following roads will be restricted between the hours of 06:00 – 22:00 from Sunday 14 July – Monday 22 July 2019 (inclusive):

  • Bushmills Road/Dunluce Road – between Crocknamack Road and Whiterocks Road
  • Ballybogey Road – from Ballymacrea Road/Ballymagarry Road to Dunluce Road (Royal Court patrons will be facilitated)
  • Portstewart Road – between Glenvale Crescent and Coleraine Road

Council have issued access passes to residents and businesses affected by these road restrictions. Access for customers will be maintained.

Golflinks Holiday Homes and Skerries Holiday Park will distribute the passes directly to their residents..

Temporary parking restrictions

Indicated by cones on the roadside, temporary parking restrictions will be introduced on approach roads to Portrush and on residential streets to ensure that emergency services can access residences and businesses without obstruction.

Please refer to our colour-coded map below to check if your residential property is affected. Businesses will be contacted separately.

Restrictions apply from the carriageway centre line to the highway boundary and refer to any verge, footway or cycle track as well as the carriageway itself.

There will be two types of temporary parking restrictions in place:

No waiting/ No parking:  Loading and unloading of goods and the pick-up and set down of passengers is permitted. However it does not permit the parking or waiting of vehicles.  Blue badge holders may not park within the area subject to the temporary restriction.

No Stopping: Loading and unloading of goods and the pick-up and set down of passengers is NOT permitted.  Vehicles will not be permitted to stop for any purpose except in an emergency. Blue badge holders may not park within the area subject to the temporary restriction.

In addition to the above,  “Local residents access only” signs will be erected for housing developments accessed from Coleraine Road, Crocknamack Road and Ballywillan Road to deter event traffic from accessing these roads.

Any person found to be driving in a manner which contravenes the restrictions could be subject to prosecution. Traffic attendants and Police have a dual enforcement power for both offences as a “Breach of sign”.

Residents affected by the restrictions should have applied for parking permits.  These permits which grant access to alternative parking have been issued, however if you have any questions in relation to the permits please contact openparkingpermits@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk.
